About the Poster
This Soviet propaganda poster from 1982, Be Proud, Comrade - You Are a Worker! (Russian: Гордись, товарищ: ты – рабочий!) celebrates the working man amid a period of stagnation in the Soviet Union.
The poster shows a young man and young woman optimistically smiling, wearing sashes that say "Dedicated to workers" (Russian: «Посвящен в рабочие»). The young man is holding up a book inscribed with the title, "A start in working life" (Russian: «Путевка в трудовую жизнь»). The message of this poster contrasts with the reality of the time, a period of zero real economic growth and a work-shy workforce. Or at least that's how soon-to-be leader of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev, saw it.
The artist behind this poster is Vladimir Konyukhov (Russian: Владимир Григорьевич Конюхов).
