About the Poster
This For the Motherland (Russian: За родину!) Soviet propaganda poster from 1941 is one of many with a similar message from during WWII.
The poster depicts a Red Army cavalryman charging down and vanquishing a Nazi soldier. That a man on horseback appears doesn't reflect the real state of affairs, which was that the Red Army was a mechanized force by the beginning of the war. Rather, the image is clearly meant to motivate and inspire.
The poster artist is Alexander Polyansky (Russian: Александр Полянский).
