About the Poster

Our Land is Strong with its Heroes (Russian: Славна богатырями земля наша) is a 1941 propaganda poster by Viktor Govorkov (Russian: Виктор Говорков).

Govorkov is the same artist who created the iconic No! / Nyet! anti-drinking poster. During WWII, he served on the Kalinin front in a specialized brigade of artists. Together with other artists, like Anna Borovskaya, Leonid Golovanov, Nikolai Dutov, and Nikolai Kozlov, he was right there on the front lines together with Red Army infantry.

In Our Land is Strong with its Heroes, a tank commander peers into the distance through a pair of binoculars. In the background is the shadow of a Bogatyr - a historic warrior and symbol of past Russian military glory.
