About the Poster
Тhe Highest Vigilance! (Russian: Бдительность - наивысшая!) is a 1982 Soviet propaganda poster that conveys the power and readiness of the Soviet military. Behind the soldier announcing the poster's title phrase are aircraft, missiles, missile launchers, a ship, submarines, and a tank.
While the Soviet Union was occupied with the Soviet–Afghan War at the time of this poster's publishing, that's not the topic of the poster. After all, the Soviet navy was not involved in that conflict. Instead, the poster's message appears to be directed at the West. Perhaps it was published following raised tensions after Spain joined NATO that same years, serving as the first expansion of the bloc since West Germany joined in 1955.
