About the Poster

We are Preparing a Rebuff (Russian: Готовим отпор) is a 1927 Soviet propaganda poster created by Yuri Merkulov (Юрий Меркулов).

Although in 1927 the Soviet Union was not actively at war, its leadership feared attack from all sides. In the poster, you can see a Soviet worker grabbing the both skeletal and chubby hand of a capitalist, who is turned to face a menacing advance of a Red Army tank, flanked by heavy industry and aircraft.
