About the Poster

This Forward! To the West! (Russian: Вперед! На запад!) 1942 propaganda poster is by Viktor Ivanov (Russian: В. С. Иванов).

The poster depicts a Red Navy soldier with a machine gun and grenade in his hands. He is heroically calling for an attack on the enemy. The poster is imbued with confidence that the enemy will be defeated. This despite the fact that in 1942 Nazi Germany was still steadily taking over more and more of the USSR.
