About the Poster
The New Travel Land is a 1930 vintage Soviet travel poster designed to increase tourist numbers to the. The poster comes from Intourist, the Soviet state travel agency founded in 1929. Intourist's first foreign office opened in London, as you can see on the address in the poster. The style of these travel posters is quite different from the usual Soviet posters of the period. The usual Soviet propaganda style was deemed not suitable for foreigners, so Western poster design style of the period was mimicked instead. From its founding in 1930 until the outbreak of WWII, Intourist helped a million tourists visit the Soviet Union, so clearly these advertising posters were doing something right!
