About the Poster
Visit the Soviet Union - The Country of the World's First Spaceman! is a vintage travel poster from 1963 by the Soviet state travel agency, Intourist. The poster depicts Soviet cosmonaut, Yuri Gagarin's first flight in space. On April 12th, 1961, Gagarin became the first human to enter outer space, completing one orbit of the earth. His orbit is depicted in this picture as a shooting red star whirling around the globe. The globe sphere has two buildings on it: the Kremlin and the main building of Moscow State University. This signifies the combination of political and scientific efforts that it took to launch Gagarin into space.
